This quarter we have done three major projects. We had a project on Algae, Cyanobacteria, and a final project about “Dumbo octopus.”
The first one I’ll talk about will be about the Algae. My partner and I did our project specifically about green algae (kelp.) we learned that kelp is actually very important to us and that it’s used for many things. There are many different types of kelp such as Irish Giant Kelp and Bull Kelp. Giant Kelp is probably the most known species of kelp. We found some cool pictures of kelp forests and had fun with the project. It was very interesting.
Another project that I learned a lot about was the project about Cyanobacteria. I learned that it is a type of bacteria but unlike the rest of its domain, it is the most important bacteria on earth. I also learned that it has been around for a long time and it’s considered a fossil. I thought it was interesting how this type of bacteria can live in the fur of some animals to provide a camouflage. There is so much more to learn about Cyanobacteria.
The last project we worked on was probably the most interesting one in my opinion. It was a project about Dumbo Octopus in which my partner and I enjoyed doing research together. This type of octopus is one of the rarest types of octopus that has been discovered. The reason it’s so rare is because they are found in extremely deep parts of oceans all over the world. It’s said that they are very difficult to find and that we don’t know too much about that. I don’t blame them, it sounds hard to study a creature from a deep and dark of any ocean.
In conclusion, we've done some interesting projects and I'm really excited for the second semester to start dissections. This class just gets better as time progresses.http://dumbopus.weebly.com/
